Q: Can I have a smaller face without getting facial contouring surgery?
Every individual is different, so surgery recommendation would differ depending on the facial structure. If the facial size or shape is large because of the facial bone structure, then surgery is required to change it.
For cases like this patient, he has an overworked masseter muscle. Botox injections were enough to make his face smaller because only the muscles were overgrown. If you have a similar problem, then it can be resolved with botox injections.
Q: Are the surgery results permanent?
With facial contouring surgery, the bones are shaved and fixed in their places with pins and screws. Once the bones heal, they will not move so the surgery results are permanent.
Q: Do I need to have the pins removed after surgery?
There is no need for the pins to be removed. The pins are made of titanium which does not affect the body. However, if you do not want anyone to know you had surgery, then you can have them removed. Your surgeon has to examine you to see when you can get them removed (Approx. 6-24 months).
Q: Is it safe for me to fly back after surgery?
After 7-10 days, it is safe to fly, though we would recommend staying for 14 days and removing the stitches before leaving.
Q: What types of foods should I avoid after surgery?
Salty, greasy, spicy foods should be avoided for a month. Chewy food should be avoided for at least a month, but three months is better to allow the bones to heal well.
Q: Do I need an additional lifting procedure after facial contouring surgery?
This depends on the age and skin elasticity level. The lesser the skin elasticity, the higher the chances of needed a lifting surgery along with facial contouring surgery. So even if you are young, but your skin is not very elastic, then a lifting procedure is recommended.
Q: Why should I stop drinking and smoking for a month after surgery?
Smoking and alcohol increase the risk of getting infections. Also, the immune system gets weakened so healing time will be longer. Avoiding smoking and drinking for up to three months is the best. If not possible, then at least one month after surgery is recommended.
Q: How long does the numbness last for?
The numbness is one of the symptoms of surgery which improve with time. Once the nerves in the face heal, the sensation will start to return. It can take from 6 months to a year for the numbness to dissipate.
Q: Will my facial structure change when I age?
Once the bones heal, their placement will not change even as you age.
