Forehead reduction

Why is the forehead reduction surgery trending?

From time immemorial, beauty standards have constantly changed, from the Helen of Troy whose face “launched a thousand ships” and Cleopatra’s famed beauty to the famous actresses that grace magazine covers today. Despite the various types of faces and features, in the world of beauty, the “Golden ratio” is said to indicate the ideal facial beauty. Though some may or may not agree, one thing is for certain, a face with balanced proportionate features possesses beauty.

The ratio is 1:1:1 for the length of the face, though Asians prefer a sharper, shorter chin, so the ratio is slightly altered to 1:1:0.9 or 1:1:0.8 depending on the individual’s taste. The vertical length of the upper, middle and lower part of the face should all be proportionate to be considered beautiful according to the ratio.

With the advent of plastic surgery, more people are taking it into their own hands to correct their facial structure to meet the “golden ratio”. There are various surgeries to alter the size, shape and proportion of the face, but our focus is on altering the upper part of the face vertically. For this, Forehead reduction surgery is ideal.

Forehead reduction surgery also known as a hairline lowering surgery is used to lower the hairline to make the forehead length shorter. A high forehead is usually considered a more masculine trait. In order to make the face softer and more feminine, lowering the hairline is recommended. This type of surgery feminizes the face, bringing harmony to the facial features.

The incision is made at the hairline, and the hairline is brought forward and stitched. After the forehead reduction surgery the sutures can be removed 10-14 days post-surgery.

People should consider having this surgery if they have a high forehead, asymmetric hairline that needs to be rounded etc. As seen from the before and after photos, the length of the forehead can be reduced by 1/3, if not more, although individual cases and results may vary. However, the drastic change in the shape and contour of the face transforms the whole look.

Is forehead reduction surgery suitable for everyone?

We will take a look at the candidates in the next post so stay tuned.
