Facial contouring surgeries refer to surgeries that remove parts of the facial bones to alter its size and shape.
Due to the differences in human facial structure, there are various facial shapes.
Although the ideal facial shape differs from country to country, the universal standard for women is symmetric, soft, feminine features.
Facial contouring surgeries are used to achieve one’s ideal facial shape.
The major surgeries that change the facial shape can be divided into 2 categories, facial width, and facial length.
Genioplasty is used to either lengthen or shorten the facial length and jaw reduction/cheekbone reduction surgeries are used to reduce the facial width.
For this post, we will only be concentrating on the differences between the jaw surgeries.
Keep in mind that each individual will need different surgery options or methods to get their desired results.
The recovery periods for the surgeries are the same with stitches removal done 14 days post-surgery. The surgery pre-cautions are also the same for different types of facial contouring surgeries.
The mandible angle is the part of the jaw just below the earlobe.
Depending on the country, a beautiful jaw can either have a smooth, rounded mandible angle or an angular mandible angle.
The square part of the jaw makes the face look wider. A mandible angle reduction reduces the projection of the bone by shaving it. Shaving the bone makes the lower part of the face slimmer.
Surgery: Mandible Angle Reduction (Square jaw surgery)
Candidates: This surgery is recommended for anyone who wants to only reduce the mandible angle without altering the chin area.
Genioplasty is also known as Mini V-line surgery is used to change the size and shape of the chin.
This surgery can fix any type of chin problems, like long chin, short chin, asymmetric chin, protruding chin etc.
Contrary to popular belief, this surgery WILL NOT give you a sharp unnatural chin. Rather, it will make your chin more proportional to your face.
With this surgery, the osteotomy (bone shaving) method varies depending on your chin type.
Watch the video below for a detailed explanation of the osteotomy methods.
Surgery: Genioplasty (Mini V-line surgery)
Candidates: This surgery is for anyone who wants to change the chin shape and size without altering their mandible angle.
V-line surgery is a combination of the above surgeries, genioplasty and mandible angle reduction.
The reason that the two surgeries get combined is to be able to contour the lower half of the face with one procedure.
For anyone who has very prominent mandible or very long chin, V-line surgery is preferred.
Surgery: V-line surgery
Candidates: This surgery is suitable for anyone who wants to reduce both the jaw and chin simultaneously.
In this post, we discussed the types of facial contouring jaw surgeries which alter the lower part of the face.
In the next post, we will discuss the recovery process for facial contouring surgeries, so stay tuned!
