Kim Sang-cheol’s surgery diary

Who am I?
Name :Kim Sang-cheol (fictitious name)
Surgery date : December 7, 2007
Concern : mandibular prognathism, open occlusion
My face is long and the lower jaw is projected outward like rice paddle. In case of others, upper teeth cover the lower teeth. In my case, however, the lower teeth are wider than the upper teeth and they do not occludebite each other properly. There are gaps even when I bite since they do not occludebite each other. I want to be free from this complex.

Surgery plan

Sanghoon Park, M.D., Ph.D
The patient is afflicted by open occlusion in which the lower and upper teeth do not match. Moreover, the patient is afflicted by very long lower jaw and mandibular prognathism that is projected outward. The upper jaw’s rotation was leveraged to rotate 4.5mm, pushing back the lower jaw by about 11mm while the length of the jaw tip was reduced 3mm. The upper and the lower jaws were subjected to the bimaxillary surgery which involves bone fracture. Likewise, normal jaw’s position was aligned and the length of the lower jaw too was reduced, which in turn reduced the length of the face. The patient is now able to close the mouth naturally since the teeth are in the proper places with open occlusion.

Lee Yang-Ku, D.D.S., M.S.
TKim Sang-cheol suffered from severe open occlusion, but the set of teeth was relatively even. Thus, analysis showed that there won’t be a problem while working on the occlusion simulation to verify the Surgery First Orthognathic Approach. Treatment was completed with orthodontics after performing Surgery First Orthognathic Approach immediately.

Changes post-surgery

post-surgery
It has been a year since I had the surgery. I am now used to the shorter face and the lower jaw that is now in the right place. Thus, when I look at my photos, I am surprised to see how much I changed. In the past, it was difficult for me to close my mouth due to the teeth that appeared to be up-side-down, and my pronunciation was not good and would spit saliva while talking. But now, I am so happy that I don’t have to worry about these issues. I love the fact that my face changed, and I am glad that various functions improved as well.
