Shim Jung-hoon’s surgery diary

Who am I?
Name : Shim Jung-hoon (fictitious name)
Age : late 20’s
Surgery date : August 10, 2007
Concern : mandibular prognathism, long face, asymmetry face
I am a soccer player. My face is long, my lower jaw is also very long and projects out significantly and the two sides of the face are twisted. It is tough for me to eat since the lower teeth are projecting out even more than the upper teeth, and I tend to lisp when I talk. Thus, I don’t make a good impression and I look older than my age. I have other issues besides the face issue, but I want to start everything anew by starting with the face orthodontics.
Surgery plan
Sanghoon Park, M.D., Ph.D
Surgery plan requires planning even to the 1mm unit. In case of Shim Jung-hoon, there were various problems such as mandibular prognathism, long face and asymmetry face. Thus, three dimensional surgery plan is required. Mandibular prognathism length was reduced 15mm while upper jaw’s length was reduced 2mm, and then rotated 3mm so that the length of the center of the face shortened. The mouth went in and there is plenty of space for the lower jaw to go into. To correct the asymmetry, the center life is moved by 1.5mm towards the left and right. When it is pushed in as much as possible and when the jaw tip’s length is reduced 5mm, mandibular prognathism, long face and asymmetry face are resolved all at the same time.
Lee Yang-Ku, D.D.S., M.S.
When the patient came into the hospital for the first time, I felt that this would be a very difficult case for performing Surgery First Orthognathic Approach due to severe open occlusion, Crossbite, impacted tooth and many teeth dentures. The upper jaw’s width was narrow. Thus, post-surgery occlusion was unstable. Thus, decision was made to start the surgery and then to add on the cosmetic procedure of widening the upper jaw. Meanwhile, decision was made to extract the teeth that were difficult to arrange since they are impacted to set up the post-surgery occlusion state.
Changes post-surgery
It has been already one year since I had the surgery. I had no idea that I would look like this. In the past, my face was filled with the flaws, but now, I am most surprised by the lower jaw that was pushed in when perceived from the side. Moreover, I am very amazed by the balancing of my face and the smaller size of the face. Now, everything seems perfect.^^ I am leading my everyday with new mindset with a new transformed face. I am amazed by the medical technology advancement. Anyway, I feel great!
