Men’s Facial Bones surgeries – In depth

There are various surgeries that men may opt for to transform their looks. Men’s Facial Bones surgeries are increasing in popularity, and we will take review some of the types of surgeries that have gained popularity in the recent years.

Double jaw surgery for Men

Double jaw surgery, also known as orthognathic surgery is required by patients who suffer from malocclusion, mandible prognathism, mouth protrusion etc. and the jaw placement is corrected through this surgery. The maxilla and mandible jaws are cut and re-aligned and fixated with screws or pins. With this surgery, the functional issues due to misalignment are corrected. Patients are required to wear a silicon wafer for a month post-surgery and many will require braces for 6 to 12 months to align the teeth based on the corrected jaw placement.

For men who suffer from malocclusion, mandible prognathism, mouth protrusion etc., this is a surgery that can change the overall shape of the face. Some patients who have other issues may also require V-line surgery together if the jaw is asymmetric. This surgery is considered a functional surgery rather than an aesthetic one, but since men’s facial bones will be altered with the surgery, the appearance will also change drastically.

Tip: Not only is this surgery deemed risky, but surgeons who perform this surgery should have a lot of clinical experience to perform this type of surgery. Make sure to select a surgeon who meets those qualifications.

V-line surgery for Men

V-line surgery includes two procedures, mandible angle jaw reduction and chin genioplasty. Either one can be done alone, but when they are performed together the jaw and chin size is altered. Osteotomy method is used to resect the jaw bones and the tip of the chin can be elongated or shortened with different osteotomy methods.

For men’s facial bones, more angular shape is considered masculine; however, the aesthetic trends differ for every individual. Men with asymmetric jaws can especially benefit from this surgery to create a more balanced profile.

Tip: For men who do not wish to keep their squared jaws, but only want to elongate, reduce or balance out the chin shape, then Mini V-line surgery can be considered.

Cheekbone reduction surgery for Men

For men’s facial bones, the cheekbone may be protruded. Based on the level of protrusion, the size of the cheekbones can be very prominent, creating an unbalanced facial shape. The cheekbone reduction/Zygomatic bone reduction can be shaved, making the cheekbones slimmer. Cheekbone reduction also considers fat deposits in the cheeks, the thickness of skin on top of the shape and thickness of the cheekbone. Therefore, X-ray analysis and detailed examinations on the cheekbone prior to surgery are crucial to successfully shift the three-dimensional structure of the cheekbone. The width of the face can be reduced with this surgery.

Tip: Depending on the age, skin elasticity etc. of the patient, a lifting procedure is also recommended in conjunction with this surgery. As the cheekbone is reduced, there may be some sagging as the bone that was supporting the overlaying skin, has been reduced.

  • Hi! I would like to know what is the price for the cheekbone reduction surgery? I have to mention that I would not need quite a reduction. i only want them to be reduced by only a few mm and maybe only on the right part of my face, because I can see some asymmetry.. Because of that, Would it be possible to have this result by only shaving the bone a bit?
