Interview

Naoko’s Stunning transformation with facial bone surgeries

ID Hospital: Hi Naoko! Tell us some more about yourself!
Naoko: I am Naoko, 25 years old from Japan. I was born with a protruding mouth, receding chin, gummy smile and a long face. I grew up feeling very self-conscious about my looks. I got teased a lot as I was growing up and I really wanted to get surgery to resolve my problems. I was very glad when I found ID Hospital, and resolved to finally change my looks for the better.

ID Hospital: How did you get find out about ID Hospital? Why did you decide to have your surgeries here?
Naoko: There are many good hospitals, so I did a lot of researching before I decided to choose ID Hospital. I decided to have my surgeries here because of the surgeons’ experience level and safety. I read many reviews and saw pictures and videos, and many similar cases as mine. I was confident to go to ID Hospital in Korea for my surgery.

ID Hospital: How many surgeries did you have?
Naoko: I had functional and aesthetic concerns, which were well addressed by my surgeon and I was recommended both the orthognathic surgery and V-line surgery.

ID Hospital: How was your healing process?
Naoko: After my surgery, I had a lot of swelling and bruising, but I saw that my face shape had dramatically changed. I was in pain, and could not eat after surgery or even drink water for 6 hours! I had difficulty sleeping on the first night, but was able to sleep from the next night onwards.

I could only eat soups and juices for about 2 weeks, and after my stitches were removed, the tightness I felt in my mouth was gone. I had been walking so that really helped me with the swelling. I was advised to begin my mouth exercises to help the nerves in my lower jaw area, so I have been doing those and seeing some improvements. I can open my mouth about 3 fingers width now.

ID Hospital: What do you feel this transformation will do for your life?
Naoko: Having surgery is not an easy thing, but I am glad I made the decision to have surgery, I am happy that I have taken care of my jaw problems. I can chew easily now, and most of all, I feel beautiful. Feeling ugly or getting mean stares is a thing of the past, and I have ID Hospital surgeons and staffs to thank for that!

ID Hospital: What is your family’s opinion about you going for these surgeries?
Naoko: They could see that the way I looked made my life uncomfortable, and they were very supportive and wanted me to get surgery and resolve the jaw problems.

ID Hospital: Any messages for patients considering these surgeries?
Naoko: Living with jaw problems, and getting teased a lot made my life unbearable at times, yet I didn’t have surgery because I was afraid for quite a long time. Now that I have had surgery, it is the best thing that I could have done for myself.

My message to others is, you don’t have to live with the burden of being born with functional or aesthetic problems, rather, you should do everything so you can have the life that you want and deserve. Find your own happiness.
