Ultimate Guide on Non-invasive lifting: Ultherapy

Ultherapy is a non-surgical lifting procedure that lifts and tightens the skin using HIFU (High Intensity Focused Ultrasound) technology.

Ultherapy makes use of the body’s natural process of producing new collagen (neocollagenesis) to lift the skin, and delivers the collagen-boosting treatment deep into the layers of the skin. Ultherapy’s special lifting machine is the only one accredited by FDA.

Ultrasound imaging is used to see the layers of tissues targeted through the treatment to target the areas that require lifting. The dermatologist can see the inside layers of the skin which enables them to control the amount of ultrasound energy and deposit it deep beneath the skin.

This type of lifting is recommended if the patient does not wish to undergo surgical lifting, but it does not produce the same results as a surgical lifting. Ultherapy is recommended for patients with moderate sagging skin, on the cheek area, jaw, saggy double chin etc.

The numbers of shots are selected based on the level of sagging skin, with mild sagging starting at 300 shots and moderate sagging starting with 600 shots or more.

Since Ultherapy does not require any products, it strengthens your own body’s ability to produce collagen and is recommended for patients who do not like having foreign materials like silicon, botox or fillers injected into their faces.

Due to the heat used during Ultherapy, there may be mild to moderate pain therefore it is done under local anesthesia with sedation. The procedure takes 60 minutes approximately and patients have to fast 4 hours before the procedure. Since it is a short procedure, it can be done during lunch break, as there is no downtime.

Unlike surgery, the results are not visible right away; you have to wait for 2-3 months to see the results. If having this procedure before an event, then it should be done at least two to three months in advance.

There might be slight swelling, numbness or redness, but it should disappear within a few hours.

The actual results vary per person, because it relies on your own body creating the collagen. For patients who take good care of their skin, with proper skin care routines, sun protection, healthy lifestyle, the results can last up to five years.

Ultherapy is the best solution for someone who wants a facial rejuvenation without going under the knife.

  • Hi, I am a 18 year old student interested in ultherapy. I want ultherapy to target the fat in my cheeks. How many lines or shots of ultherapy do you recommend I take? And also, what is the difference between the 1.5, 3.0, and 4.5 penetration? Is it targeting different levels of fat loss?

    • Hi Lisa, thank you for reaching out.
