Post-surgery scars: Surgical incision Areas and Examples

Most patients are concerned about post-surgery scars. To help you get an idea of what post-surgery scars for various surgeries look like and how they heal over time.

Post-surgery scars

V-line surgery/ Mini V-line surgery: V-line Surgery is a surgery procedure used to shave portions of the jaw and chin bones to create a smaller jaw and chin. Mini V-line surgery is used to shave the chin bone only, to create a sharper chin.

For both surgeries, the incisions are made inside the mouth (on the sides and above the chin area). The incision area is not visible, so this surgery does not leave any trace.

Cheekbone reduction surgery: Cheekbone reduction Surgery is used to shave a portion of the cheekbone to reduce the facial width.
Depending on the surgery method used, the incisions may differ.

The most common incision is in the mouth but there could be an incision in the sideburns as well.

Forehead reduction surgery: Forehead reduction surgery is also known as Hairline lowering surgery is used to reduce the forehead height.

An incision is made on the hairline in a zig-zag pattern to naturally blend with the baby hairs. When the hair grows back, it will hide the post-surgery scars.

Rhinoplasty: The surgery is usually done using the open rhinoplasty method. The incision is on the columella. As it heals, the scar almost completely disappears.

Eye Surgery: For double eyelid surgery or ptosis correction, the incision area is on the eyelid crease. The surgeon skillfully hides the scar on the eye crease, so when it fades, it will look like a natural eye crease.

Under eye Surgery: For the under eye surgery, the incision is done on the lower lash line. With surgeries like lower blepharoplasty, the incision fades and is barely visible with time.

For breast surgeries, the incision area is not stitched. Dermabond is used to seal the incision area to minimize scarring.

Breast Surgery (under arm incision): For patients who opt for the underarm incision, there will not be any scars on the breast area. The underarm scar can be well concealed until it heals and fades.

Breast Surgery (below the breast incision): Patients feel that this surgery will leave a lot of ugly scars, but contrary to that belief, the incision below the breast heals really well. In addition, using a good scar ointment will help the post-surgery scars fade better.

Liposuction: With liposuction, post-surgery scars are the minimum. The incision areas are very small, 2-3 mm in size. Once they fade, they will not be visible.
