How to recover faster after liposuction: 7 helpful tips

Everyone sometimes gets impatient to see results fast, so we have come up with tips to help you recover faster after liposuction. Following these tips will ensure you get the best results, and at a quicker rate.

Liposuction is performed to remove the subcutaneous fat, which is suctioned out with the use of a cannula. Liposuction is more of a body sculpting procedure rather than a weight loss procedure. Only fat is eliminated, as the procedure cannot resolve loose skin or cellulite.

Like other surgeries, liposuction has a recovery period. The pain may last for 3-7 days post-surgery. Swelling is a common complaint, as it can take 3 to 6 months and sometimes longer to see the surgery results.

Fast Recovery Tips

Medication

Taking medication on time, and following all the doctor’s instructions is vital for the recovery to take place. Pain killers and antibiotics are included to reduce infection risk so missing on medication is not an option.

Compress garment

A compression suit is bought prior to surgery and must be worn for a month after surgery. They help to keep pressure on the area for the proper shape so wearing them is important to avoid dimpling or uneven bumps.

Walking

Walking will help you to recover faster after liposuction. Light walking will help improve circulation and drain the lymphatic fluids which in turn will reduce swelling. Walking also helps to keep blood clots at a bay; however, you should keep your heart rate at resting levels and walk at a slow pace for the first few weeks at least.

Eating

Eating wholesome well balanced meals will help you recover faster after liposuction. Increasing protein will help your body heal so make sure to include good quality protein to every meal. Have smaller meals and avoid sugary foods and junk food.

Rest

For the first week post-surgery, do not make any plans or engage in any work. Keep your schedule free to just rest and relax so your body gets ample time to heal.

Water

Have fluids constantly to avoid dehydration. Avoid sugary or high sodium drinks, but focus on drinks that will deeply hydrate your body like coconut water.

Coffee, Alcohol and Smoking

No coffee/diuretics, alcohol or smoking for 1-3 months post-surgery. Smoking or alcohol consumption can lead to higher chance of infection, so those things have to be avoided to recover faster after liposuction.

After a month, you can slowly begin incorporating exercise back into your daily routine. Remember that you need to eat right and exercise to maintain the liposuction results.
