Forehead reduction surgery is also known as Hairline lowering surgery is used to reduce the forehead height. This procedure is ideal for anyone who has a large, prominent forehead.

The actual shape of the forehead is not changed; rather the hairline is lowered so the forehead is not high.

 

 

An incision is made at the hairline. Depending on the scalp laxity, 2-3 centimeters of excess skin can be removed. Endotine is used to fixate the scalp and the remaining parts are stitched together.

This surgery is also used for feminizing the face by creating a rounder hairline.

The surgery is about 1-1.5 hours, and the stitches are removed 10-14 days after surgery. The pain is minimal, the swelling is mostly on the forehead and eye area and the scalp will feel numb it has fully healed.

 

Recovery Process for forehead reduction surgery: Things to avoid before surgery

 

Avoid any kinds of blood thinners for 1-2 weeks before surgery.

Avoid smoking and drinking alcohol for 1 – 2 weeks before surgery.

 

Post-surgery instructions/precautions

 

Do not irritate the surgical area, or remove the bandages. Make sure that the bandages do not come off if they do, replace with the given bandages.

Do not apply pressure to your head, and avoid bending over.

 

 

The eye area will be more swollen than the forehead area, so make sure to use the cold pack for the swelling for the first 3 to 4 days after surgery then shift to using a warm pack.

Make sure to always check the temperature on your hands first. Never apply the packs directly on your skin.

Swelling takes 2 to 3 weeks to reduce and minor swelling takes 3 to 6 months to reduce. You may get temporary headaches for a week or 2 after the surgery.

Take all your medication as instructed. Never take medication on an empty stomach.

 

 

Wear a hat (do not wear tight hats), apply sunscreen to protect your skin from direct sunlight (prevents pigmentation if you have bruising).

Sleep at a 30-45 degree angle. Use pillows to prop yourself up and sleep on your back, do not sleep sideways or face down.

Avoid salty, spicy, greasy foods for a few days after surgery.

Do not go to the sauna or steam room for a month after surgery.

Avoid hair dye for 3-6 months after surgery.

 

 

Do not do any vigorous exercise for 3-4 weeks after surgery.

Avoid smoking and drinking for 1-3 months post-surgery.

Do not rub your eyes excessively for 4 weeks after surgery.

Avoid touching the areas where the endotine has been placed.

Do not have your eyebrows tweezed, plucked or removed for one month after surgery.

Before the surgery, the surgeon will see you one more time to draw the surgery design.

 

 

Since the surgery is done under local anesthesia, you will be fasting for 6 hours before your surgery time.
