TMJ disorder, what kinds of treatments are there?

More and more people suffer from TMJ disorders throughout the winter. Due to malocclusion, TMJ disorders may result in chronic headache, clicking or grating sounds when opening or closing the mouth, and/or pain or tenderness in the face, jaw joint area, neck and shoulders. If the pain continues, difficulty in concentration, chronic fatigue, or depression may follow.

Orthodontic treatment needs to be considered first to correct malocclusion. If the severity of malocclusion is so severe that orthodontic treatment cannot fix it, corrective jaw surgery should be recommended.

‘No-tie’ two-jaw surgery, an upgraded procedure of orthognathic surgery, has its fame by eliminating the ‘intermaxillary fixation’ step after surgery. Since ‘No-tie’ two-jaw surgery does not require wiring of the teeth, patients breathe and swallowing food easily. Patients can also speak freely without any pain or discomfort. It also alleviates pain after surgery because patients do not need to open their mouth forcefully to breathe, eat, and talk, reducing the recovery period.
