The ideal body shape has evolved throughout history, from skinny, full-figured to curvy, all types of bodies have been celebrated and that aesthetic continues to develop. Current trends for ideal body shape include fuller breasts and butt, with a flat belly. Unlike the waif-like figures of the twenties or the fuller figures of the renaissance which were not easy to attain, women can easily achieve the ideal body shape by going under the knife. Not only is plastic surgery accessible to all, but it is more socially acceptable.
There are various types of procedures one can consider to get their ideal body shape, no matter the age or fitness level. Types of procedures include but are not limited to breast augmentation, liposuction, tummy tuck, butt augmentation, breast lift or reduction etc. According to the ASPS’s (American Society of Plastic Surgeons) 2017 Plastic surgery statistics report, liposuction and is among the top 5 procedures done in 2017.

What is liposuction?
Liposuction is a procedure by which existing fat is removed from the body to give you an ideal shape. The fat is melted and sucked through a small incision made in the desired area, using a cannula. The most important thing about liposuction is the after surgery maintenance, cultivating a healthy lifestyle, watching what you eat and exercising regularly to maintain the results. Fat cells are removed but the remaining fat cells in your body can store fat again, so it is possible to gain all the weight back if the results are not maintained.
Liposuction is not a weight loss tool, but rather a body contouring tool, to just get those last stubborn fatty areas and give you the confidence to work on your body. For people who have an excess of 20 pounds or more, exercise and a healthy diet should be used first, to get rid of excess fat, rather than liposuction. Liposuction results cannot be seen right after surgery, it takes months for the swelling to go down, and requires wearing a compression suit post-surgery.
Candidates for Liposuction: Anyone with 5-7 pounds of fat to lose or areas on the body that cannot be spot reduced through exercise.

Important steps to follow to get the best results from liposuction surgery
With body contouring procedures, like any other procedures, selecting the right surgeon who is board certified, and has vast clinical experience is of the utmost importance. Discussing your expectations with the surgeon is also critical to know whether the aesthetic you have in mind can be created, and what you have to do after that to maintain the surgery results.

Compression suit
Wearing a compression suit is important to reduce swelling, reduce pain and help the body take on its new shape. Wearing it for the time specified by your surgeon is very important.

Diet
Diet is another factor which will determine the type of results you will get. Post-surgery, you will have a lot of swelling, the amount of swelling matches the amount of fat extracted. Drink plenty of water, and a liquid diet is recommended for 2 weeks. A lot of care has to be taken to maintain the new body shape, so a healthy eating plan has to be followed, eliminating junk food, trans-fats and processed foods.

Exercise
Another aspect which plays an important role is exercise. Working out is not possible right after surgery, but light walking is recommended when possible. For the first month post-surgery, light walking should be done, following which, a consistent exercise routine should be followed to maintain the new body shape.
Following the above instructions after your surgery will ensure you get and maintain the ideal body shape.
