8 Tips to Help You Recover After a Breast Augmentation Procedure

Breast enlargement

As with any surgery, whether facial contouring surgery or breast augmentation procedure, how well you take care of yourself after the surgery determines the type of results you will end up with. There are many things that can be done for a speedy recovery and they can be summed up into four crucial elements. Focusing on these key elements will ensure the fastest recovery possible.

Following ALL the post-surgery instructions

Rules can be hard to follow, especially post-surgery when you are in pain. Following all the surgeons’ instructions is a must to guarantee quick recovery after your breast augmentation procedure.

Sleeping position: After the breast augmentation procedure, patients are advised to sleep on their back for at least 6 months post-surgery.

Medication: The doctor prescribes antibiotics, muscles relaxers, pain-killers etc. which have to be taken on their appointed times for two weeks. For the first three days especially, be sure to have someone to assist you, or set alarms so that you do not miss out on taking the medications due to sleeping.

No alcohol, nicotine or coffee (diuretics): For at least one month after surgery (three months is more better), avoiding alcohol and nicotine is a must, not only to aid in recovery but also to avoid getting an infection. Nicotine will slow down your body’s ability to heal, which is the opposite of what you need.

No shower:  As uncomfortable as it may be, it is not possible to have a shower for few days post-surgery. When your surgeon permits, you can take a shower but take great care to keep the incision areas dry at all times.

Rest: Before going in for a breast augmentation procedure, allocate at least one week to rest. For first 3 to 7 days, REST is crucial. Make sure to dedicate this time to let your body heal.

Compressions bra and band for breast enlargement surgery

Wear the correct bras: The compression bra and band are to be worn 24 hours a day for at least a month, then at night for three months. After three months, normal sports bras can be worn and then six months post-surgery, you can wear underwired bras. No matter how tempted you may be to try out new bras, and get some sexy lingerie, you are advised to wait for the right moment.

No Exercise: Strenuous activities should be avoided, along with sauna and steam rooms. Avoid running, jumping or lifting heavy objects and any activities that may strain your upper body muscles. Alternatively, leisurely walks are recommended at least 2-3 days after surgery. A week after surgery, you can increase the intensity to a brisk walk.

Post-surgery diet: Eating a healthy diet will aid in faster recovery. After breast augmentation procedure, salty, greasy and spicy foods should be avoided and focus should be on fresh, nutritious food. Have small light meals so your body can focus its energy on healing rather than digestion. Also, make sure never to have medications on an empty stomach.

The instructions may vary depending on the type of incision area, implants etc. and on every individual’s healing capacity, but keeping these points in mind, recovery does not have to be a long pain-staking process.

Reader’s discretion is always advised and following up on your surgeon with any concerns that you have in a timely manner will also ensure you do not face any problems during the recovery period.
