On the last post, we discussed what to do before coming to ID Hospital, so we will focus on what you have to do after arrival to ID Hospital. There are many parts that require more in-depth explanation but the below checklist is concise and to the point.

After Arrival

1. Figure out how to get to the hospital

In case you have made your own hotel booking, figuring out the way to the Hospital for your appointment is up to you. There are several transportation options, like taxi, bus and metro. The closest metro station is the Sinsa station on Line 3 (orange line). The taxi option is the best, as it will bring you to the Hospital directly. You can request the address in Korean to give to the taxi driver.

2. Punctuality: don’t come too early, don’t come late

The consultation timing is given based on the doctor’s availability. Coming earlier, will result in a longer waiting time and coming later than your appointment time may lead to not being about to see the doctor. The doctors see patients after they finish a surgery, or before they go into surgery, so being punctual is important. Also, you should not be late on the surgery day.

3. Before surgery food preparation

Before the surgery, you have to prepare some food to eat after the surgery. Depending on the surgeries you have, the type of food you can eat the next few days will differ. In case of facial bone contouring surgeries, pumpkin juice or porridge are recommended for the first few days. Being well prepared will help so you can rest for a few days and concentrate on healing. The medication which is prescribed for a week has to be taken after eating, so preparing what you will eat in advance will make things easier for you.

4. Read all the post-op surgery instructions

Read the post-op surgery instructions, while still in the ward, so that you can ask if you have any extra questions about the sleeping positions, what to eat, how to use the ice/hot packs etc. Ask any questions to the doctor and nurses before leaving, so you are aware of all the steps you have to take with the self-care process to ensure you have the best surgical results possible.

5. Rest

Rest and relax for the first couple of days. Healing takes time, and sometimes people under estimate the amount of time required to heal. Help your body heal by resting. After 3 to 4 days, light walking is encouraged to help with the circulation, which in turn will help reduce the swelling.

6. Necessary documents from hospital before leaving

Make sure to get all the necessary documents from hospital before leaving. The tax refund is given one day before leaving, but other documents have to be requested in advance. If you have no plan of coming back to Korea, it is advised to get a copy of your X-rays (nominal fee of $10). Another document is a certificate showing that you have had surgery, and may be required by immigration. Our translators will be assisting you to apply for all the documents.

7. Make sure to check your tickets

If you are eligible for a complimentary airport drop off, then we recommend sending a copy of your ticket to ensure the flight details are correct.

Usually for the first week, you are recommended to rest. The week after, you can go and explore all the amazing things that Seoul has to offer. Next week, we will introduce some of the places you can visit as you are healing, and the types of foods we recommend you to try!
