What is Orthognathic Surgery?
It is the medical term for jaw-correction surgery or chin-correction surgery, orthognathic surgery surgically corrects upper jaw(maxillary bone) and lower jaw(mandibular bone). For the case of protruding or asymmetrical jaw that doesn’t function well or is not positioned appropriately, the upper and lower jaws are cut and relocated to fix mastication and speech problems as well as to bring excellent improvements aesthetically.
As people’s interest and need for orthognathic surgery has increased, medical technology also has made a fast improvement along the way.
Traditional orthognathic surgery required a long treatment period and recovery process for fixing severe jaw deformation and is now continuously developing into an aesthetic surgery that creates a beautiful face by ensuring a more stable result.
Traditional orthognathic surgery
It is a jaw-correction surgery for fixing jaw deformation. It corrects the teeth line for 1 year~1 year and 6 months through orthodontic treatment before surgery. After cutting the jaw bones, jaw fixation process is taken place to hold the upper and lower jaws for about 1 month. Finishing orthodontic treatment wraps up the process.
Surgery-first approach
‘Surgery-first approach’ started with our concern for reducing the pain which our patients have to undergo. It was introduced to minimize the long treatment period and the pain that increases throughout the treatment process.
No-tie Two-jaw Surgery
We invented the No-tie Two-jaw Surgery after considering the patient’s perspective and through extensive research , we can detach bones without jaw fixation for patients who have had difficult time recovering due to the fixation that disables their mouths from opening during the fixation period.
History of modern orthognathic surgery, Korean id Plastic Surgery Hospital
The history of modern orthognathic surgery
started at id Plastic Surgery Hospital.
id Plastic Surgery Hospital has been at the center of advancing medical technology and environment, from establishing a specialized hospital in orthognathic surgery to introducing the ‘surgery-first approach’ and 'No-tie Two-jaw Surgery'
In addition, we have adopted a simulation program for orthognathic surgery and applied a patent for 3-dimensional scanning technology of teeth model, continuously striving hard for more thorough and detailed surgeries.
As far as orthognathic surgery in Korea, id Plastic Surgery Hospital is the top hospital in the field, and we are holding ‘International Surgery-first Orthognathic Surgery Symposium’ every year to spread the knowhow of orthognathic surgery with confidence.
