How to pick the perfect breast augmentation surgery

Breast augmentation surgery

Breast augmentation surgery is the hottest trending surgery. With the rising number of people interested in increasing their breast size or getting perfect, natural breasts, choosing the type of procedure may be difficult. We will help you get enough information before deciding on a procedure. So how to figure out which procedure is right for you?

Breast augmentation surgery is a procedure by which the implants (silicone or saline) or fat transfer is used to enlarge the size of the breasts. An increased Breast size changes the balance and shape of the body, giving a more feminine figure. There are several reasons why anyone might consider to have this type of procedure e.g. to have more confidence; wear sexier outfits, to pursue a certain career etc. Breast enlargement procedures can be divided into 3 methods.

Different Methods for Breast enhancement procedures

Breast augmentation surgery (silicone implants)

Silicone implants for breast augmentation surgery

With this surgical method, a silicone implant is inserted into the breast pocket to create larger breasts. Depending on the implant shape and size, the results can vary from rounder, fake looking breasts to the more natural looking teardrop shaped silicone implants. The trend nowadays is to have more natural looking breasts. With the textured silicone implants aka ‘gummy bear’ implants, the texture comes really close to the “feel” of a real breast.

Having a consultation with the plastic surgeon will give you an idea of the shape (round, teardrop), size and texture (smooth, textured or micro texture) based on your individual height, body shape and skin elasticity. The incision area is also something that the surgeon will advise during a consultation. Most popular incision methods are under the breast or armpit incisions.

Before and after - breast augmentation surgery

Surgery Duration: 2 hours approximately

Post-surgery care: Depending on the clinic, post-surgery swelling care is provided

Cost: Differs depending on implant, approximately 8000-11000 USD

Anesthesia: General Anesthesia

Recovery period: Differs per person, 3-6 months approximately

Worth it? Compared to the other 2 methods, this is the most popular breast enlargement procedure, as the results produce voluminous natural-looking breasts.

Fat transfer Breast augmentation surgery

Fat transfer breast augmentation surgery

Another popular procedure is a fat transfer. Fat is harvested from certain areas like abdomen or thighs, and the fat is then re-injected into the breasts to add volume and size. This might seem like the perfect solution! Getting rid of excess fat in the problem areas and getting large breasts all in one go! Sadly, it is not the case as the fat survival rate differs by individual, from 20% to 50%. Even worst, someone who is skinny or someone who loses fat easily cannot have this type of surgery, as they do not have enough fat to extract. There is also a possibility of development of calcification or steatomatosis when fat grafting is performed. For those who are uncomfortable with the idea of having an implant in their body, this option can be considered if you have excess fat.

Surgery Duration: 4-5 hours

Post-surgery care: same as fat graft

Cost: surgery has to be done more than once to get considerable volume, so the cost can become expensive

Anesthesia: Local anesthesia

Recovery period: Less invasive surgery, up to 3 months.

Worth it? Depending on your individual case, you can consider this procedure if you meet the criteria mentioned above

Breast Enlargement with injectable fillers

Some surgeons do provide breast enhancement using hyaluronic acid injections, but it has not been approved for use due to safety reasons. Another reason is also the cost, as the volume required for a modest increase in breast size would be quite expensive.

After comparing all methods, it is safe to say that the most cost effective, longer lasting procedure is the implant insertion method.
